About Benchmo

Updated

Benchmo is a set of free online tools, built by one developer, Yosi Fridman. It covers the everyday jobs people search for: converting iPhone photos, merging PDFs, making QR codes and barcodes.

Why another tools site

Many free tool sites are awkward on a phone. Benchmo is built the other way. Every tool is made for the phone first and works the same on a computer. When a tool has a limit, the page says so, with an example.

How it is built

Nearly everything runs in your browser, which keeps your files private and keeps the site cheap to run: there is no fleet of servers converting other people’s files. The how it works page explains the details, and the licenses page lists the open-source software underneath.

Who builds it

Yosi Fridman has worked in enterprise IT for more than 20 years. He started in infrastructure, running servers, storage, virtualization and networks. Since 2014 he has been a full-stack developer and technical lead on large business and public-sector systems, in JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Node.js. Today he is an independent consultant who builds cloud and AI solutions on Google Cloud, the same platform that runs Benchmo’s few server tools. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science.

That background shows mostly in what the site does not do: no uploads where none are needed, no accounts, and hard spending limits on anything that would cost money per use.

How it is paid for

The site will show a small number of ads. There are no paid plans, no “pro” upsell inside the tools and no selling of data.
